Homebuying Guides
Even before you begin looking for a home, the home buying process requires
diligent preparation. Buyers who have been preapproved for a home loan often
have their offers taken more seriously by sellers. With advance preparation, you
can tackle the process of acquiring the financing you need with more confidence.
To help you on the path to homeownership, Neighborworks® offers*
free step-by-step guides,
developed by the Fannie Mae Foundation, that can help you get closer to
achieving your dream:
Buying a Home Still a Good Financial Decision. According to recent
pole taken by the (National Realtor Association) 9 out of 10 American consumers
believe that buying a home is a good financial decision. sixty-four percent of
respondents also agree that now is a good time to buy a home, with home prices
leveling.
Jim Sahnger, mortgage consultant, - "The
Fed once again lowered federal funds by another half a percent. Expect that
mortgage rates will edge higher as Washington and the Fed are working to pump up
the economy. All this will take its toll on inflation expectations and this
should drive up mortgage rates. If you need to get a mortgage application in to
your lender, do so now."

Interest Rate Roundup
Rate: 6.41 percent (30-year fixed) Average Points: 0.40 Mortgage rates moved up for the fourth time in the past five weeks, although the increase was more modest than in other recent readings.
"Now might be the best time to act,
because lenders are likely to keep raising fees and tightening
lending guidelines. Someone who qualifies for a mortgage now
might not qualify a few months from now. When loan officers and
mortgage brokers make this point, many of their customers brush
it off as a hard sell. Doing so could be a mistake. Mortgage
lending standards are indeed getting stricter by the week, and
rates are low."
